State of Missouri Eliminates Data Entry Costs with UltraForms® Technology - Resulting In Savings of 67% on 2003 Tax Returns

PDF Version (60 Kb)

MADRID, Spain - February 6, 2004 - Dataintro Software, the leading provider of 2-D Barcode generation technologies for Adobe Acrobat PDF Forms, announces that the State of Missouri's Department of Revenue is reaping the benefits of selecting UltraForms® Technology for implementation on Missouri's 2003 individual tax forms.

Prior to the implementation of UltraForms® Technology, the State of Missouri's Department of Revenue (DOR) has been providing its Individual Tax Forms on-line to taxpayers in the Adobe Acrobat PDF format. The options for the taxpayers have been to fill the form, then print, sign and mail the form to DOR; or, to print the form then fill it by hand, sign and mail.

The processing of these forms has been costing the State of Missouri $0.86 per form. With the incorporation of UltraForms® Technology, the cost of processing these same forms has dropped to $0.29 per form. With an estimated 2.6 million returns to process this can be a substantial reduction in costs. Mitzi Crump, Forms Analyst at Missouri DOR, expects to process between 125,000 and 200,000 forms using this new technology. This is a cost savings of $0.57 per form or $71,250-$114,000, within the first year.

"We are extremely excited about the prospect of not only recovering our investment in UltraForms® Technology within the first tax season but of recovering this investment well in advance of the end of the tax season. Our challenge is going to be to educate our taxpayers to continue to utilize these types of initiatives by the State of Missouri and to include UltraForms® Technology into as many processes as we can that involves the capture of data from forms. We will be extending this technology to our Sales Tax, Motor Fuel, Cigarette Tax Returns and many more..", said Mitzi Crump, Forms Analyst at Missouri DOR.

When the returns are received by the State of Missouri the 2-D barcode is scanned, capturing all the information entered on the form, and eliminating the need to OCR or manually enter the data from the multiple pages of a typical tax return. The forms can be used by any taxpayer with access to a computer with Internet linkage, and the only additional requirements are the installation of the popular and free-to-download Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher, and an ink jet or laser printer.

"Printing a PDF417 2-D barcode on the forms simplifies the department's processes and dramatically reduces data entry time for each form. Not only will this save the State money, but it will also improve customer satisfaction by processing the return more quickly and reducing mistakes", said Stan Farmer, Director of Taxation for the Missouri Department of Revenue.
